Yes you are right, it levelled down at about 3.0.

HOWEVER, with the help of a plug socket energy monitor, I have discovered that whatever is reported in Activity Monitor has nothing to do with the increase in power usage I get or battery drain for others.

Same problem here. Opening transmission causes 60W extra from the wall and the GPU fans to spin faster with only one transfer downloading... OS X 10.9.2, transmission v2.82

I think you need to get rid of the option "Prompt user for 'quit with active transfers" in the general tab.

This will prevent transmission from coming up with the message "are u sure you want to quit" when the computer tries to shut down.

hope it works because I cant be bothered to test it!

This seems incredibly normal. It's your peers who decide how much data to send you.
