is there any way to run scripts on hooks to simulate this, as its a bit of a pain?
How are those other tools that work with transmission accessing the backend? also it occured to me that some stuff is being sent to the dbus notification server so I might be able to run a script as a result of that ...

In the end it was the default IPTABLES firewall was blocking the uPNP on the router forwarding to the tranmission port. (I thought that uPNP would set the port up regardless of whether it was actually accessible on the client, but alas no)

Hi,
I noticed that when using the official bittorrent client on windows, if you open a torrent file that has the same file but different trackers it adds the new trackers to the trackers list - or prompts you to add them.
The torrents that I am downloading using transmission do not seem to do this ...
