The advertised speed is 8mbps, the (average) results via speedtest.net was maxing out at about 6mbps. Often it was slower, but still it's in mbps not kbps. This is what I'm confused by. Why am I not downloading via Transmission at over 1mbps?

Difference between "download speed" & actual download speed
Just a general question - I've recently changed my ISP and taken an 8mbps download speed connection. When using Transmission, I'm hitting a download speed limit of about 650kbps that I can't break through. Is anyone able to explain why this is? With my previous ISP I was getting at least double this ...

Still never got this sorted, by the way.
I even tried downgrading to an earlier version (from back in the days when it worked okay) but to no avail. Still my port is closed.

I did... I have the firewall turned off on my Mac.
On a more interesting note, before I started all this fiddling around, I could not browse while downloading. It completely killed Safari and Mail. But Adium was fine. Now, all access is fine.
