I answered my own question ultimately. Yes, Rogers is flagging connection to listening ports assigned randomly by Transmission on program startup and ascribing this activity to a port-scanning virus.

Running Leopard 10.5.6 I experienced the same type of problems running only 1.42, which had been operating fine for the past few weeks.
