Re: Moving Files

I would suggest that the "2nd best method" listed above really be
the 1st best method, since it doesn't actually move any files and just tells transmission where to start using the files from, in place.

I run 2 copies of transmission to provide better priority control and rpc response time, so on ...

Re: "Attackers Can ‘Steal’ Bandwidth From BitTorrent Seeders

Actually I think the topic is a bit ludicrous to begin with.

I mean you have people giving away bandwidth (I seed 24/7), and someone talks about "stealing" the BW that I am giving away for free??... Yeah, I
know its about a potential unfairness in the distribution mechanism, but still, taken in ...

Re: Multple instances or similar

This is a post about getting more than one transmission copy to run.

I didn't repackage it. I use a different "startup" script for each.
(on a linux box, such scripts (pre-systemd) were in /etc/rc.d/
and/or /etc/init.d and subdirs there (rc3.d for multi-user no desktop/X)
rc5 for 'X'... where they ...

Re: Some cache stats?

BTW, FWIW, I do keep track of the I/O going on using my "iomon" util (see attached pic).

Trying to cut/past it as text doesn't show it nearly as well.

Re: Some cache stats?

Hey... thanks for the clue stick... sometimes the truth is too unbelievable for me to believe....;-)
Even your version of It? :lol:
My version is usually more believable because I gave the person the benefit of the doubt and it doesn't even enter my mind that they might have done "XXX", because ...

Re: Some cache stats?

I will have to look at what you say more closely, BUT one thing I wanted to throw in -- THERE are no days when I have no downloads.

I have a large enough set of torrents in upload that I constantly
have an average of 1MB/s being uploaded.

The two copies of transmission I have running "concur ...

Re: Some cache stats?

Why? It's a write cache. Maybe you could use your expertise to gather stats for #5423 ? Thanks!
???

why would you have a write cache? This is a read cache.
Those stats are for hits requesting a read of data that is possibly
already read.

This is purely a matter of transmissions internal read ...

Re: "Attackers Can ‘Steal’ Bandwidth From BitTorrent Seeders

Astara, the issue has been resolved.

But not the issue of why he didn't submit it in the first place or why I don't bother.

IMO, never having seen a bug-tracker that requires approval before being allowed to submit or update a bug, it feels like they are trying to hide something. They may very ...

ionice, you should open a trac ticket for this issue.
Maybe they don't want to have every message submitted
for moderation and wait up to a day to see if their message was
even accepted.

Some cache stats?

Maybe this code could be added to the mainline in some form so some mainline
stats can be gathered.

Basically, it counts hits+misses and writes them out every 15 minutes. Every
hour would be fine in my case, but if someone wanted to test with 1 torrent on a high
speed download, given that a 300 ...

Regarding the libcurl issue... I found this note dated 2007 that this problem had been worked around in libcurl?

code refactory (cache.c) & better handling f security issues

Small code improvement in cache.c:

~line 264 I see:

static int cache_block_compare(const void *va, const void *vb) {
const struct cache_block *a = va;
const struct cache_block *b = vb;

/* primary key: torrent id */
if (a->tor->uniqueId != b->tor->uniqueId)
return a->tor->uniqueId < b->tor ...
