Default user on the NAS was root

If its just going to be a network location for torrents I would just do a public share.

Check no indexing services are running on the DIR
Check network card MTU as well as your modems MTU
ifconfig , will tell you this.
If you have MTU issues this can cause file corruption and skipping of missing elements of files ect.

make sure ure editing the correct file,
/root/.config/transmission-daemon/settings.json
as their sometimes will be a /.config/transmission/settings.json
Before editing do killall tranmission-daemon
just to be sure

Could be issues writing to different filesystem like NTFS, does the sharepoint server have public read/write access to that directory?
Does transmission store to your local machine fine?

sounds like a possible permission issue, is the transmission/apache user have full access to that dir?
If it stores data to a file, then tries to overwrite some data, perhaps it cannot overwrite due to permission and fails.
