Transmission

I am using transmission on a Mac so do I need an Anti Virus? also I share the films via a windows PC using dropbox so do I need to virus check anything when I share it to a windows PC using dropbox?

I have just downloaded Transmission for my MacBook but it appears as a read only file and its not in applications , how do I rectify this please
