...almost a month passed since I applied the "fix" (and wrote here)...and I'm happy to report that it does solve the issue!...no slow deaths for me

...my experiences:
-it doesn't happen on tiger...mac mini ppc, 10.4.11 via ethernet (no ap) t 0.82 running wihout any problems since 2007
-the other machine is mbp 2.4 early 2008 when I bought it instantly ditched 10.5.2 and upped it to 10.5.5 and put t 1.34 on...the whole machine runs without ...
