Re: Recognize torrent files by file type
Thanks. Yes, there is. I didn't notice it before. That makes it work, but it also shows me other things in the directory that are not torrents. It would still be nicer if it knew about files by types.

Recognize torrent files by file type
I occasionally get torrent files that do not have the ".torrent" extension. If I right click on the file in dolphin, it recognises that it's a torrent file and offers me appropriate options (like transmission). The Linux file command recognises it as well. However, if I click on the Open A...

Re: Port Open Indicator
I've heard good things about dd-wrt. I didn't know it was available for Actiontecs. I'll check it out. I have to see if I own the gateway or not. I might not.
But, I'd still like the port open indicator in Transmission.

Re: Port Open Indicator
Huh? I tried UPnP awhile ago. It likes to fill up router tables and my ISP uses a lame (best way I can describe it in polite language) one (Actiontec). My port forwarding table had a bunch of added rules. I'm not sure exactly what happened any more, but I don't think it helped - especially because m...

Port Open Indicator
I just found that my port for Transmission was closed again in my gateway. I had a port that it liked, but it changed its mind. It only remembers some ports when it is power cycled. I have no idea how long the port was closed this time. Having the port closed dramatically reduces performance because...

Re: Editing Trackers - Undo ...
Finally had time to install the daemon. Transmission-show is very nice.
I remember, sometime in the past that installing the daemon via apt uninstalled the gui, but now it works fine.
Thanks again.

Re: Editing Trackers - Undo ...
I don't know how that works. Currently, I just run the client - transmission-gtk. I don't think I run the daemon at all. I'm figuring out how to get a NAS to work and when I do, I may start playing with the daemon and web interface.

Editing Trackers - Undo ...
Sometimes I get impatient and edit the trackers on a torrent too much - deleting ones that are not responding now, but might later. I was going to ask how to get things back, but in the process of asking the question, I found an answer myself. There's a cool little utility (for Linux) called dumptor...

Port selection with Transmission gui
I have an annoying gateway that forgets port assignments that it doesn't have predefined. To get around this problem, I selected port 6346 (Limewire). It remembers that one across power cycles. Most of the time, everything works fine with very good performance. What I'd like to know: Is it likely th...

Re: Upload during download chokes for no reason
I have noticed similar behavior for a long time. I'm currently using Transmission-gtk 3.21 from the ppa (Linux - kubuntu lucid ). When I am seeding several torrents successfully with reasonable bandwidth utilization and I start a new download that uses a significant portion of available download ban...

Restoring Properties Windows at Startup
This would be very nice, but not necessary. When I use Transmission, I usually have one or more torrent properties windows open. Being able to do this was the main reason I switched to Transmission from deluge. This works fine, but: My system is a notebook, so it gets shut off frequently. When I clo...

Re: Make Transmission Windows Smaller ...
I just realized that this has been implemented. It works just the way I want it to. I'm not sure when the change was added, but it's in my current release, transmission-gtk 2.31 Thanks! Joe I'm sure it worked yesterday, but today it doesn't. Only the main window can be made smaller - not the propert...

Delay activating new seeding ratio
When I change a seeding ratio of a particular torrent from seed regardless to seed until ratio or I adjust the ratio down too far by accident with the spinner, it takes effect instantly and the torrent sometimes gets paused (losing all the peers). I would like it to wait until I tab out of the field...

Re: How do torrent ratios work?
@Jordan I took the number of bytes uploaded and divided it by the number of bytes in the torrent (both as reported by Transmission) and did a simple division and got a different (higher) result than what Transmission was reporting. At first, I thought this might have something to do with MB vs. MiB,...
