I've been using Transmission successfully for a few weeks (I recently switched to Ubuntu), but some problems have developed. For one, when I attempt a download, it's save as ".exe" -- DOS/Windows executable (application/x-ms-dos-executable) -- instead of ".torrent".
Why would this be occurring? Thanks.

Yes. A bad web site wanting you to download a Virus!
Real torrent sites do not have you download exe files as a torrent.
