Blocklist Effectiveness

Post by elron1245 »

So, its pretty simple..

How effective are blocklists at keeping you anonymous.

I added the http://john.bitsurge.net/public/biglist.p2p.gz blocklist and it had about 390,000+ IPs.

I added a bunch of other random blocklists from iblocklist, but my main question is how secure are these things?

Obviously there is no way to completely protect yourself, but in terms of CYA and adding on protection before getting into the "six strikes" law, how effective are they are creating anonymity?

In total I have just over 826,000 IP address rules in my list.

Pretty effective. I recently relocated for work, and my torrent box was packed up with the rest of my goods for shipment. I installed transmission on my laptop without a block list to get movies for the few weeks I'd be without my possessions. Almost immediately I started getting DMCA notices from my ISP, and I had never gotten them before. So yeah, the lists definitely work.

Looks like http://john.bitsurge.net/public/biglist.p2p.gz is down. "This Domain Name Has Expired"
