https connection to transmission-daemon fails

I tried to connect with SSL to port 9091 on the server I have running transmission-daemon. I get:

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to charon:9091. SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

Do I need to change anything in the settings file to allow this? Or something else?
