Lost settings when i wanted to upgrade from 2.84 to 2.94

Post by postcd » Wed Jan 01, 2020 11:06 am

Hello,

i found i was having Transmission qt 2.84 on my Windows 10
i downloaded latest Windows 64bit build (transmission-2.94-x64.msi)
ran it and it complained that Transmission is already installed and i need to uninstall it. I backed up C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\transmission which apparently contained app settings.
I uninstalled as requested.
After installation of mentioned 2.94 it is blank without any torrents of mine.
I think this is something that should not happen. The installer should upgrade app and preserve the settings.
How do i restore my settings now please?

i apparently restored my torrents like this:
quit transmission
copy contents of the folder:
C:\Users\me\AppData\Roaming\transmission
(except the settings.json file)
to:
C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\transmission

but i still think this is issue and should not happen. If no one wants to fix the installer to properly upgrade the app, then maybe the uninstaller should better explain how to keep settings for the purpose of upgrade.

The 2.84 version that you mentioned is probably the one from trqtw.sf.net, which is (or should I say was) an extensively patched unofficial Transmission fork maintained by rb07. As such, we're not planning to support upgrade from it and decided to simply warn users of incompatibility between it and 2.9x+ builds which are now officially provided for Windows by the upstream.
