Transmission doesn't start after upgrade

Post by WaxenPith »

Greetings,

I just upgraded from an older version (I forget which one) to v 3.0. After restarting my computer, I ran transmission, but the main window doesn't display.

The icon shows in the taskbar and when I hover over it I see a blank white square and an outline of an invisible window where I assume it thinks it is.

I've tried several restarts, and used the installer to repair but still nothing.

What information do I need to give you in order to help me troubleshoot this?

Sincere thanks in advance.

Since you used 2.9 (or some other older versions) and switch to 3.0+
first uninstall Transmission on your computer.
Start/Settings/Apps
Transmission - Uninstall

I use Windows 10 x64
and I go to:
https://build.transmissionbt.com/job/trunk-win32/ (Nightly builds)
choose: arch=x64
download: transmission-3.00+----------x64.msi
after that install.

P.S.
If you have Windows 10 x32
Go to the link above.
choose: arch=x86
download: transmission-3.00+--------- x86.msi
after that install.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I've tried uninstalling a few times, with no luck. Being paranoid, uninstalled, restarted, installed, restarted, then ran Transmission and I still have the same error.

I've tried running it as Admin and using compatibility mode but still nothing.

Confirmed that my version of Win 10 is 64 bit.
Are there files in the registry I need to remove manually?

I've been using Transmission for over a decade and this is the first time I've ran into an issue like this. I know a bit of software troubleshooting, but unfortunately hardware is more my bailiwick.

Try editing your settings.json (with Transmissmission not running) and removing all "main-window-..." keys from it to see if it helps. This should reset window state to its defaults. An alternative to this is to activate Transmission (clicking on taskbar button), then press Alt+Space to open up window icon menu, select Move there and use arrow keys to try and move the window.

Might also be somehow connected to https://github.com/transmission/transmi ... ssues/1214 (while the behavior is a bit different).

RESOLIVED

SOLUTION
Turns out the window was about a mile off the right side of my desktop. I hit ALT + Spacebar, selected Move, and then held the left arrow key for several seconds. The window eventually crawled into view.

Sincere thank you to mike.dld for all their assistance.

I came to say this, I recently had the same issue; I was downloading a huge data file from the company I work for about the citizenship of Greece program, and couldn't find the window, I freaked out for a while but, fortunately, managed to bring the window back to my screen and launch the download.
