transmission headless, does not connect to peers

Hello everyone.
i am new to the forum, but i am using transmission for quite some time.
i have decided to install transmission to my headless raspberry so i could minimise my power costs.
i have followed this link http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22218 to setup the system.
transmission seems to start and download, but in more than 50% of the cases it does not connect to peers.

at the same time i am getting this file to a different PC in my LAN running win 7 with utorrent and it downloads (>10000 peers).
i have gone through the wiki so many times without finding a solution.
could soneone give me a hint in what it might be wrong?
