Update says Transmission is on optical drive or read-only volume

Update says Transmission is on optical drive or read-only volume

When I click on the link to check for updates, within the Transmission app for Mac, it says it can't update if the app is on a read-only volume or optical drive. The app IS in my Applications folder, but I have been using iCloud to store all the torrent files. What is the problem?
