download of a torrent created by myself

Post by lleo »

First post so hello everyone.
I have a question, since it's something I just made for the first time.
I created a torrent by a file I have in "Video" folder (I use Linux Ubuntu, currently the 18.04 LTS).
The folder where I have my torrent files is "Downloaded".
So, I finished to download the file and moved it to "Video" folder. I deleted the torrent within Transmission.
Then I wanted to send the file but it is too large to send, so I though to make a torrent and let the person to download it from me.
I made the torrent, pointing at the file in the "Video" folder, then I sent the torrent file to the person by email.
The person put the torrent in Transmission to download but it seems it doesn't advance at all.
So I have a question: if I make a torrent from a file I have that I've downloaded with Transmission, does the file has to stay in Transmission also if the download is complete or, as I did, I can move it to another folder, delete the torrent from my Transmission and let the other people to download it?
I hope I've explained my issue correctly.
Thank you for any help.
