How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
Like the topic says, I'm wondering how to move my seeding from one client to another. Take the files I am seeding on Azureus and continue seeding them on Transmission so I can get rid of Azureus.
It feels like there should be a way to transfer what I'm seeding in Azureus, without creating new torrents.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
It is very possible to do what you are requesting.
If you still have the torrent files, then just open these files in transmission and then as download location pick the location of the file and check the box for validating data.
This will add the same torrent to transmission that was being seeded in azu. I have also done this with partially downloaded files, and that works fine too, just point out the azu temp file and make sure to validate data, and transmission will continue from the point where azu stopped.
If you don't have the torrent files then azu saves a copy around the same location as it's preferences, or you should be able to create a torrent file in azu that you open in transmission.

Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
I am having a similar problem.
I had downloaded some files using Transmission awhile ago and need to reseed them now. I still have all of the local files (14GB) and the torrent file. I re-added the torrent file to Transmission, selected the download folder as the folder where the local files are it doesn't seem to see the files. When adding the torrent I have clicked the "Verify Data" button several times but it doesn't seem to do anything. No popups, no bells, no messages.
"~/Archive/Torrents" is my default folder for all Transmission downloads. When I re-add the torrent should I be selecting the "Torrent" folder or should I be selecting the folder where all the files already are ("Folder_1")? I don't even know why I'm asking as I already tried both and neither worked.
I have included my file tree below, if it helps.
~/
-- Archive
-- -- Torrents
-- -- -- Folder_1

Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
I too would like to transfer everything from Azureus.
However this is a hugely tedious process. My data files are all over several volumes, but my torrent files are generally in one location (on yet another volume). Surely the information for the data file path is kept somewhere by azureus. presumably not in the torrent file itself. and presumably that path information is kept somewhere by transmission. Shouldn't there be a way to move that info from azureus to transmission, start seeding all existing torrent files using the data file paths that exist?
even better would be to automatically weed out dead or missing torrents.

Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
well i finally made the transition to transmission and it took me a full day to reseed about 200 of the 600 torrents i had seeding in azureus. as mention above this is largely because my data files were spread over several volumes.
here are some tips i found to speed up the process:
1. in azureus, in column setup select the options to show the paths for the torrent file and the data file.
2. select all your torrents (in each category) and copy. this will copy info to the clipboard you can paste into a text file to show paths. unfortunately this copy function has a bug and it's sometimes garbled but oh well.
3. get Houdah Spot (spotlight utility). Make sure your volumes are all spotlight indexed. set houdah spot to include the search locations for all data files and all torrent files.
4. make sure transmission settings are set so torrents don't start automatically when adding manually.
5. search for each torrent in houdah spot.
6. reveal the data file in the finder.
7. drag the torrent file directly to transmission. It will bring up the torrent window (unfortunately for some reason it is not alway sin the foreground and you then have to select it from the Window menu).
8. select the new location (the parent folder of the data file / folder). Default Folder helps to quickly select the folder revealed in finder in step 6.
9. verify data, select group (if desired), and start.

Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
Hi there!
I'm new to Transmission... I was looking for a slimmer BT client for use on an old G4 running Tiger. I had no idea how great Transmission was, and how much smaller it is memory-wise compared with Azureus! So I'm a total convert now.
However, I have the problem mentioned above and although I know how to transfer the files across, I was wondering, is there possibly a way of hacking the statistics to make Transmission think that you have seeded more? The reason I ask is that I have a system whereby I seed most things up to 2.0, and torrents from a specific site I seed all the way up to 10.0. These things I have been seeding in Azureus literally for years, and I would like to copy the ratios across so I know how much more of each I need to seed.
Does anyone have an answer for this?
Many thanks!

Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
As you've probably figured out by now, it's not the torrent client that keeps track of your ratios, its the trackers. So the ratio shown in Azureus is meaningless.
Still not good solution to moving all your torrents among clients though.

Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
That is true for private trackers, but there is also a local copy of our ratio which is nice to keep of track of for public trackers which don't care to do so. I'm trying to import my torrents over from Deluge, but i don't want to do so without copying how much i have uploaded/downloaded (which is used to calculate the ratio). Is there a script or something to do this?metaclam wrote:As you've probably figured out by now, it's not the torrent client that keeps track of your ratios, its the trackers. Re: How do you transfer seeding from one client to another?
In my special case - old machine: Ubuntu / Transmission 2.13 - new machine: Linux Mint Debian Edition / Transmission 2.52 - the following recipe works:
1) Copy the data files from the download folder of the old machine to the download folder of the new machine
2) Copy the complete content (files and sub folders) of ~/.config/transmission from the old machine to the new machine
The Transmission client on the new machine will also show the correct download ratio.
I guess the key part are the files in ~/.config/transmission/torrents and the files in ~/.config/transmission/resume - in my first attempt I just copied the files in ~/.config/transmission/torrents. That did not work - the client on the new machine started the download again.

@snoewchen
I'm in a similar spot, and would like to expedite this re-adding process. You solve anything? Or just muddle through them all (like I'm doing right now!)?

@cfpp2p that looks interesting.

says Transmission is only import. Before I try installing these packages... this/these programs will migrate from one Transmission to another one?
thanks!
