Strange Issue

I attend a large university and live on campus where I use the internet provided on a LAN/Ethernet on the wall. For the entire fall semester and up until about 3 weeks ago I got fast download speeds, no problems. Until now. Now a single download wont start and bitorrent says the port is 'closed' (im not sure whether it said that before or not), so whenever the LAN is plugged in it doesnt work, but strangely sometimes i can download from the LAN but its intermittent. Also, if i unplug the LAN and connect to the wifi offered, the downloads start up again and the port is open. Can anyone offer any insight on what I can try? Also what ports should I be setting to download from? What range of ports does Transmission use? Thanks.

changing ports doesnt work....i downloaded hotspot shield...what i am i supposed to do with it?
