I hope they would allow udp protocol tracker to reduce http traffic on ISPs and have a better browsing experience.

Another supposition for a user would be be that the one of the most popular open trackers OpenBittorent(http://openbittorrent.com/) has removed it's HTTP tracker and now only uses UDP.
This is precisely the reason why I as a user would like this feature implemented. OpenBittorrent is great for doing small runs of torrent distributions!

Submitting my vote for UDP support based on the growing trend to remove HTTP trackers, and only rely on UDP trackers.

Hi there,

I see that UDP support should be in, but recently I've been unable to connect to torrents with only UDP trackers set, they all error with "connection failed". Is there something we need to setup in our routers-firewalls for UDP support to properly work with transmission?

Thanks.

Are you sure the trackers in question are not temporarily offline? UDP trackers work for me. Of course your firewall should not block UDP traffic. The router should not be an issue. Also try connecting via http (edit the tracker entry).
Apparently the trackers are not offline, I've tried turning off the firewall completely and it doesn't help. Changing manually to http trackers works, but having to do that with every torrent is a PITA, and is not really a solution for the UDP trackers not workin :(

There are at least two common public trackers that work via http but not udp and are used in many torrents.
Having said that there are many udp trackers that appear to be working fine.

So, those trackers have a problem with their end or is a problem on the user end? :?:

Probably a little of both.. Haven't fired up another torrent program to compare.

Any chance you could do that and report the results?

Reporting is a little tricky due to forum rule 8. "Never post private information, such as torrent or tracker names, IP addresses, etc."

But I will do a test and see if uTorrent has trouble with these common trackers.

Fired up uTorrent and found that it could connect to both the http and udp protocol on a common "public" tracker and a common "open" tracker... Tested the same torrent in Transmission 2.33 daemon and it did not connect to the udp protocol for those trackers.
