iBook OS 10.4.11 not working with Transmission

hi I wonder if anyone can help here because I really am out of my depth on these matters :
I have been given an Apple iBook G4 , OS 10.4.11 in excellent condition. I would like to use Transmission and have found that version 1.54 is the one to use.

However its not working and when I look At the Preferences I see :

: Peer listening port 51314 : port is closed.

The Automatically Map Port is on.

The iBooks Firewall is Off

Network Time and Transmission are enabled

Airport is On

I am using wi-fi : Virgin Media Wi-Fi

My question is : how do I get the Peer Listening Port open so that I can use Transmission ? I may be doing something very simply wrong so any help is appreciated .

thanks but upgrading to a new OS just to be able to use Transmission is just a step too far.

Success ! I fixed it myself . I changed the default port to 50001 and now after two days of fiddling about Transmission is off and running .
