Completely 100% block all uploads?

Post by Leecham »

Hi,

I am using Transmission BT 2.84. (14306) on Mac OS X 10.9.5. I would need to know whether or not it is possible to completely and 100% block all uploads.

If I set in "Bandwidth" the Upload rate to 0 (zero) KB/s...
and in "Transfers" -> Management check "Stop seeding at ratio" and set it to "0,00"

...will others - under any circumstance - be able to download anything from my torrents, any tiniest bit of information?

Is the Window "Statistics" 100% accurate and reliable, where it says: "Uploaded: Zero KB, Zero KB total, Ratio: 0,00 0,00 total?"

Thanks for your feedback! :)

I don't know if it would be of any help but I have tested recently the daemon and the daemon does allow downloads to proceed with an upload speed of zero but the zero upload limit must be specified in the global setting only. An individual torrent upload of zero stops everything for that torrent, but no so for a global zero upload setting. I've outlined the testing of the daemon here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17757#p72913

Thank you for looking into my problem and for your feedback, guys! :)

So my assumption, that - regardless the global Download limit and that probably nobody will let me download anything - if Upload is globally set to Zero, no chuncks/filecontent, not even fractions of the file will be uploaded is correct?

Still others in the swarm will be able to "see" my file's details like the filename and the filehash.

Correct. If global up speed limit is set to zero; -- torrent blocks, chunks or pieces are NOT transferred. Others in the swarm already know the details since it is a swarm for the same torrent bittorrenting and ultimately connected together by the exact same hash, that's how torrenting works. The filenames are defined by the metadata your client uses but it is only the hash that all in the swarm know to be the same. Filenames are never exchanged, just the data pieces as defined by the hash and metadata.
