Transmission 2.93 (3c5870d4f5) freezing High Sierra 10.13.4

Post by flaubert »

Hello!
I am on High Sierra 10.13.4 and i use transmission with VPN connection.I have 1100 torrents sharing and when I launch transmission and start the torrents seed my system freezing for about a minute: I can move only the mouse. This happens every time i open transmission and the upload starts to be on medium high values.
Please, fix this problem.
Thank You.

Please update to Transmission 2.94.

Does the problem still occur? Do you get a SPOD? Can you switch to other apps? How much free space do you have on your main HD?

With all torrents paused, re-launch Transmission. Does the problem still occur? Or does it occur when you start the torrents?

Problem also manifests itself in the version 2.94

1) No i don't have any SPOD

2) HD it is 3 TB and half full

3) Problem it happens after a few minutes all the 1169 torrents are in seeds: so every time i open transmission for the first time and i'm connected to my vpn. If i connect to the VPN ( for example for web browsing) and do not open transmission, no freeze occurs.

When you launch Transmission, it runs thru all the torrents, checking to make sure their data is as-expected and starts them running (if required). That takes a while! After it's done dock-bouncing, I see a delay of about 30s. My 250+ torrents are spread between a Drobo (FW800) and two external HDs (USB3). During that start-up, I get intermittent SPODs, but I can still switch to other apps and use them normally.

Trying to reproduce a freeze. Had 1250 torrents going with none. :\

You mention a VPN. I find Transmission to be quite resilient. You can initiate and destroy a VPN connection at-will with no adverse effects. Transmission processes the connection breaks and re-opens them normally. Depending on the VPN, opening the connections can take (much) longer than normal.

I'm now having this problem with 2.94 and HS 10.13.5. 3880 torrents. actually it seems it started when i paused them all and tried to get them to restart. they're all started now but it freezes up Transmission, have to force quit.

really like to solve this. if i can manage to quit it, it behaves normally for a while after a relaunch. Hard to predict, maybe 15 mins? seem to happen when it goes in the background. Currently using 187% of CPU with 20 threads, 27 idle wake ups, according to activity monitor, and hung. (i removed about 100 torrents so far, while it's responding, down to 3759. again, it wasn't having problems before I mistakenly paused all the torrents, then restarted them in batches.)
