"File too large" when downloading 4.20 GB to FAT32

Hi everyone, im trying to download 4.2 GB file, but when I do I get the error: "file too large". This is strange..right?

is the harddrive you want to save the file to formated in FAT32? if so, it wouldn't be strange because the largest in one piece you can save on it is 4 GB. If you're running a mac you need to formate an HD in NFS+ to store bigger files.

The good thing about FAT32 is that windows pc's and mac's can read and write on it. While on NFS+ only mac's can.

O man I feel stupid now, of course it´s FAT32 :oops:
Haha just have to save it on my other harddrive, thx :D

While on NFS+ only mac's can.
You means HFS+ :wink:

Mac OS X can read/write to HFS+, Windows can neither read nor write.
Windows can read/write to NTFS, Mac OS X can only read (by default.)

may be a stupide question but i have the same problem with my external Harddisk
is there eany chance to format it without deleting the data??

Move the file to another drive, format the external drive to a better filesystem, and move the file back...

well i don`t have another 370Gb of file storage
that`s my problem

I don't know of any way to change a disk's filesystem while leaving the contents intact.

i don't have hfs+
i only can chose:

MacOSX extended (journaled)
MacOSX extended
MacOSX extended (Gross-/Kleinschreibung journaled)
MacOSX extended (Gross-/Kleinschreibung)
MS-DOS Dateisystem --> which i have now
and UFS (Unix file sysem)

(the names are in german)

what should i take??

Mac OS X extended is HFS+ =)
