Crash 1.42+ r7617~r7624, random

Post by Ryoujin »

I was using T for a while, not sure why it crashed. Here is the log: http://transmission.pastebin.com/m13dcea5

At the moment I had 7 torrents downloading at the same time. Here's what the Console shows:

Code: Select all

1/4/09 8:13:51 PM [0x0-0x16016].org.m0k.transmission[161] Assertion failed: (compare( t->items[i], t->items[i + 1] ) < 0), function assertSortedAndUnique, file /var/tmp/pea/svn.transmissionbt.com/trunk/libtransmission/ptrarray.c, line 208.

1/4/09 8:13:56 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x16016].org.m0k.transmission[161]) Exited abnormally: Abort trap
First crash experienced for a long while, previous error was the hang up but that has been fixed.

Crashed again. Log: http://transmission.pastebin.com/m61585acd

You can compare the times from the previous crash, I opened it afterwards so it has been up until now.

Code: Select all

1/4/09 8:57:05 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x1c01c].org.m0k.transmission[206]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
Still using the latest r7617. I'm also still running with 7 torrents downloading, I really doubt it has something to do but I'm going to lower the amount to 1.

Edit 9:14 PM Going to put it all here instead of multi-posting.
And again, this time it lasted less to crash and it only had one torrent running. Crash log provided here: http://transmission.pastebin.com/m772615d2

Code: Select all

1/4/09 9:12:23 PM [0x0-0xf00f].org.m0k.transmission[99] Assertion failed: (tr_isPeerIo( io )), function tr_peerIoGetAddress, file /var/tmp/pea/svn.transmissionbt.com/trunk/libtransmission/peer-io.c, line 443.
1/4/09 9:12:28 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0xf00f].org.m0k.transmission[99]) Exited abnormally: Abort trap

Edit 9:20 PM
It might seem that Transmission is unstable. Log: http://transmission.pastebin.com/m56e88e50

Code: Select all

1/4/09 9:19:59 PM [0x0-0x17017].org.m0k.transmission[128] Assertion failed: (tr_isPeerIo( io )), function tr_peerIoSetEnabled, file /var/tmp/pea/svn.transmissionbt.com/trunk/libtransmission/peer-io.c, line 841.
1/4/09 9:20:01 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x17017].org.m0k.transmission[128]) Exited abnormally: Abort trap

Edit 9:27 PM
Sort of trying to finish this download :S So gonna keep posting the logs in case they are helpful. http://transmission.pastebin.com/m1df55f2a

Code: Select all

1/4/09 9:26:57 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x1b01b].org.m0k.transmission[147]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault
Downgrading to r7615 to see if the crash shows up there.

Edit 9:36 PM
No luck; downgraded and it still crashed. http://transmission.pastebin.com/m1daf7050

Code: Select all

1/4/09 9:35:56 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x24024].org.m0k.transmission[197]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
Going to try going all the way to r7600 now.

Mine is crashing constantly as well. I was using 7567 before and it was working somewhat ok so I'm not sure if I should just revert back to that version. I guess I will...

But obviously there is some issue. You were downloading very few torrents and seeding 140ish so I thought that might be the problem but I guess not.

On most of those crashes I only had one torrent active, the rest were paused.

As for downgrading, until the issue is solved it would probably be the best temporal solution. Right now with r7600 I haven't experienced any crash (at least for now), unlike before that they were getting frequent and the time between them was sort of short.

Back to r7600 meanwhile.

Got a random question about these crashes: would there be risks of torrents getting somehow corrupted by the repetitive crashes while they are downloading? Like data not downloading correctly and then video files not displaying correctly?

First off, I reverted to 7600 and that helped.

Thanks for the idea. And I don't think they would since it rechecks the file when you restart downloading so if there were issues it would redownload the data, afaik.

Noticed that r7622 had fixes so I tried it out, everything was fine until I tried quitting, then it crashed.

Crash Log: http://transmission.pastebin.com/m4767c9b1

Console Log

1/5/09 7:51:24 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x1e01e].org.m0k.transmission[195]) Exited abnormally: Abort trap
Edit: 8:20 PM Seems to be gone with r7623.

Crashed again when exiting.

1/5/09 9:53:35 PM com.apple.launchd[62] ([0x0-0x31031].org.m0k.transmission[313]) Exited abnormally: Abort trap
This is still with r7623, trying r7624 now but the change log doesn't reflect changes to this crash.

Edit: 11:46 PM Trying r7627, nothing for now, will post if anything comes up but it seems that this revision has a fix (by jhujhiti) to the error, I guess I'll see until tomorrow morning and see what happens. r7624 did crash (Crash Log http://transmission.pastebin.com/m4404f929) when it was closing (for it to be replaced) after I downloaded r7627.

I have updated to r7627 and it is still crashing...though not like it had been. There seems to be an issue when I try to go to preferences. I will open the window and then it will crash. I don't really have a report to share with it, but I'm just adding to this thread what I've experienced.

I would say it is improving, though I am quite dumbfounded as to what the issue could be causing the crashes. It never used to crash, and now I don't know what has been changed/added, etc. to cause it.

If you're still experiencing problems in r7630 and up, please post the crash log here, and the assertion message if applicable. I think we've got most of the problems hammered out, but more eyes are always good. :)

I'm getting the same thing. Latest version, 1.42 - have about 6 torrents total, 3 downloading and 3 queued. All downloading to an external HD over USB. I've had a few crashes before, on close and when messing with preferences, but nothing like this and nothing with this much consistency. It goes for 10-30 minutes, and then crash.

I assume it's there for a reason, but can someone just comment out that assertion? Does this have something to do with throttling?

Is that the latest stable version or the latest nightly build version? If you aren't already, could it be possible for you to use the latest nightly build and check if the issue is still there? Link in my signature.

As Ryoujin says, try the latest nightly and see how that goes. Since we're beta-testing 1.50 right now, testing the nightlies is a lot more helpful than testing 1.42. Thanks!

No, it was only the latest stable build. I just kicked off the latest nightly, and I'll report back.

Okay, 7765 is running and no crashes since I started it (about 24 hrs). One odd thing I did notice was that one of the torrents seems to randomly pause itself. Just one - there's five running, and the same one has done this about four times. Well done on the stability, though.
