I don't understand many things on "torrent"

I have just "transmission" now and they say :" choose a torrent"; I don't know WHERE torrents are.
(I'm french !)

Thank you very much for your help.
Now, I know how to search torrents BUT....... I don't know put them in transmission. I copy the adress of the torrent and try to paste it in first page of transmission, or paste it in "applications", or in the deskop. Il does not go.
I am not vrey young, so...... When I have an adress of a torrent, HOW put it in "transmission" ??

I have catched a torrent named "ubuntu-10.10 desktop-i386.iso
BUT it goes on again and again to send..... It is written near the picture ubuntu : 693.2 MO and it has sent , from now, 1.26 GO and nothing new happens.
I don't understand anything !
