Transmission.app as remote for transmission-daemon

Post by owiecc »

I would like to move torrent downloads to my router which has the ability to run transmission-deamon. Web interface is ok, but I am wondering if it would be possible to use the native OS X transmission.app as frontend to manage the torrents and have the actual downloads performed on the router.

I tried this one, but the look and feel is not very macish. I like the native app and hope that someone will use its UI for remote app.

If that was good enough solution, then there really wouldn't be a reason for the mac client to even exist.

The way I think it should work is:
in the preferences the remote section should have tabs forr access and connections
the access tabs would show what is currentl under remote
the connections tab would give form:

Code: Select all

               Connections:   {popup list}
               Aliias: _________
               Remote host : ____________
               Port : ____________ ssl [x]
               Username: ______________
               Password: ______________

               [ Delete] [Revert] [New]
When addng a torrent there would be a popup list of connections in the

Code: Select all

Download to: {popup list} /path/to/download/folder [change]

I support this idea very much. Transmission-remote-gui is pretty slow due to not using obj-c. I don't think making transmission available as a front-end only should be too much work.

Devs, is it possible that this would ever exist?

I'm wondering if the devs have even read this? It would be nice if one of them would say, whether this is being considered or not.

Any chance this request can be reviewed by the developers? It would be great to have the native OSX GUI to control the daemon.

Thanks

Putting my +1 in for this. Was really disappointed when I got a macbook and downloaded the official transmission app to connect to transmission running on my NAS :(

Hey,
I vote for a +1 too.
I think i can be possible to keep all the UI Model of Transmission.app and just change the model to not 'watch' the local torrent, but torrent from an other server/mac some of people this with the JSON API.

I found this project last year. But it have a lot of bugs and it abandoned. But perhaps, this will interest somebody !
