Accessing transmission web interface outside work via VPN

Post by chuckisbusy »

Hello all.
I have a simple question. I have setup Transmission at work on a unix box. Everything works, I can download torrents and access the web interface remotely/locally (any machine in the local network) via http://localhost:port/. My question is how can I access the Transmission web interface from home? From home, I VPN into my work network and SSH into my machine. I can start/close the daemon but cannot access the web ui with http://localhost:port/ ... Any ideas?

No it is not.. I just discovered transmission-remote. I am 100% satisfied with viewing torrent details through terminal.

Wrong address. Its not "localhost", but the IP (or local name) of the computer running Transmission.

Sorry to necro this but I had this same issue and created a long guide to resolve the issue using iptables and other scripts. It will be nice to use the vpn tunnel traffic through specific port feature with the new kernel.
