only transmission 1.22 works

Here's the problem:
I have ubuntu hardy fully updated installed and I just can't download things from the internet using the latest version of transmission.. Only 1.22 works...
Is it possible to upgrade my 1.22 and and still have the possibilities to download?

There's no log or error message...
With the latest version, I just see things waiting for download..
Nothing else happens... Including the fact that it doesn't download anything...

I use the transmission made from the svn checkout, and it works ok. I have ubuntu 8.10 .

There are instructions on how to do this on transmission's website.

I have tried amule only, and it seems to work just fine.
But my problem is about the latest versions of transmission..
Because I can't download with them... Except 1.22 version..

An interesting thing happened when I upgrade transmission to 1.50 version, after working with all the check list. What happened is that transmission seemed to connect peers, but disconnects again. I almost have no time to see that those peers are in "d: We would download from this peer if they would let us" mode.
After all, I still can't download with recent versions of transmission.

Hello.
I'm sorry I don't have any answer, but wanted to voice that I am looking for an answer about this too.
I have been working on a single download for over two weeks.
I see many users with that designation "we would download from this peer if they would let us".
Many of these same users are uploading from me, (it says it right on the next line) so I know there is a clear path.
The swarm rate is blazing compared to my pitiful download rate.

I have done all the port forwarding, all that standard stuff, been downloading for years.
I have been through all the standard transmission screens, nothing answers these questions.

If these users will not "let" me download from them, how can I stop them from uploading from me? Save my bandwidth for users who will "let" me download and for my own downloads, or, how can I ask these users to "let" me download from them? Is there some setting, some form, something I'm missing?

That sentence should clear some doubts...
