When using Transmission 1.42 and start a new torrent the program uses 100% I/O. That's understandable seeing as it's allocating files. The problem, however, is that it completely lacks up then gets focus again and keeps going like this for a very long time. That is even after it has started downloading the file. The download speed boost up to 100-200kB/s, then the program locks up, and then goes to 0. Then repeat. I have never had this problem with other programs, just tried uTorrent using Wine and I have previously used kTorrent without this problem.
In extreme cases my computer locks up in the sense that everything's so swamped that I can barely get to console and kill Transmission after some minutes of waiting.
Any suggestions? I previously used 1.3x (can't remember, the one in Ubuntu repo) and it gave same problem.

Into what type of filesystem were you saving the files? This person had similar troubles, and was using ntfs.
