explain colours on progress bar?

I see a yellow colour section at the end of the torrent download progress bar, which shrinks to nothing as the torrent gets close to wards completion.
What does this bit of the progress bar signify please?

In the GTK+ version of Transmission 1.0.x, the little yellow section was the pieces of the torrent that had been partially downloaded -- but only partially, so the piece's checksum couldn't be tested yet.
