After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
After downloading the previous version of transmission my port is now permanently closed. Even after downloading the latest beta version 1.50b1 (7672) it remains the same. I have been using transmission forever and have never even needed to change port setting, even using it in different countries. Now nothing seems to work, randomising, using Lighthouse, changing IP, portforward etc. Also none of my other bittorrent clients now work either, ever since installing this update. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Port closed since upgrade
Absolutely nothing has changed in the port forwarding code since last October, so I doubt it's the upgrade causing the problem.Morpheus wrote:After downloading the previous version of transmission my port is now permanently closed. Also no matter what the problem is, Transmission wouldn't be breaking it for other BitTorrent clients.
My guess it's something going on with your router and/or firewall. Have you walked through the Port Forwarding Guide yet?
Re: After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
Hi
Thanks for the reply, yes I have run it with no success. Basically i use a lot of different connections as i travel and have never needed to set it up as it would connect automatically. Now no matter where i am and on what connection (always airport) the port is closed.
Thanks

Same here, I set 4 port forwarding rule in my router, the other three works fne, its something with Transmission I am 100% sure.
Re: After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
I wish I could help you on this, but I think you are incorrect. The port forwarding code has not changed in any significant way in Transmission for over six months now.

Thanks.
Here I have a few facts:
My 51413 port was closed although I have forwarded properly. On the same computer other port are forwarded correctly and they are open, so ip settings are ok... With a quick google search, I've found numerous user with the very same problem and the very same statement, which says they have forwarded the port correctly...(I have installed it only a few weeks ago so I have no experience from 2008 Oct.)
Update:
Now I have set the port to 51412. And updated the port forward rule in my router to 51412 too. The port seems to be opened now, BUT:
In a private tracker I receive the followinng error message: "reason 1 - no/erroneous BT client listening or misconfigured router" Could you help me on this one? For example now I downloading a public torrent which has 215 seeder but I can download from 12 of them with 64k (transmission encrypted, my net connection is capable of 640k+
Update: 2.
. 3 minutes later WITHOUT even loging in to my router, the port 51412 is closed now. No change in port forwarding rules, in transmission or anything else. (except for the change of maximum upload speed from 40k to unlimited.)
Update 3.
In the last minutes I have tried to limit and delimit the upload speed, It seems that is has some kind of effect on port status (open / closed) or the port status change is independent of the upload limitation and it is a strange coincident .
Anyway, my port status seems to changing minute by minute without even log in to my router....
(I use transmission remote gui to change upload limit if its a relevant input)
Re: After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
Using 1.50b1, my port is also closed. I have successfully managed to have it open in the past (using my router configuration page), but now ...
Ok interrupted. My Mac OS X built-in firewall (10.5.6) was causing the problem, even though I had it set to allow almost every single connection (except for a few random apps).
If you're having problems, try turning off your firewall and then use http://www.canyouseeme.org/
Hope that helps.

Re: After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
I have been using Transmission from version 1.34. It was great, i was in love with transmission, since i got fast downloads and a friendly interface (best ever know by me).
But something strange happened once upgraded to version 1.42. At first it worked fine but a few days later I see the "famous red dot" that everybody is talking about around all the web: "PORT IS CLOSED"
I have changed to many other ports, I have visited many forums about these same theme, I already have disabled my Mac OS firewall, I have followed all steps in Help Section about Port Forward and I have no luck to make it works again. Also I talked with the "system guy" in my company, he says: "You have full access to Internet, the firewall is not blocking any port to your mac, so, the software is the problem".
And that is not all the problem, since I have this problem I tried to use another softwares, like iSquint, Cabos, Acqlite, BitTorrent, Frostwire, Tomato, and many others that I found in the web, "but any of these is capable to work now". It looks like Transmission is ill, and it is contagious.
I can not try uTorrent since it works only on Mac OS 10.5. and a I have Mac OS 10.4.
I hope somebody in the Transmission staff can make the necessary fix in order to get the old man back to the work.
Any suggestion about any other software, I will be waiting..... but no forever, and so will do others.

Is is not possible for Transmission to have an effect on other applications. There is definitely something wrong with your system/setup.cultard wrote:And that is not all the problem, since I have this problem I tried to use another softwares, like iSquint, Cabos, Acqlite, BitTorrent, Frostwire, Tomato, and many others that I found in the web, "but any of these is capable to work now". Re: After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
I have the same problem on both my MacPro and Macbook, they both closed the port a few days ago and I'm dead in the water. I've fwd the port, changed the port, turned off the firewall, etc, etc basically everything that everyone else has done, transmission is dead
I deleted everything from transmission, then installed the new beta, my port is showing open now but anything I try to dl gets an error: tracker request failed, so somehow it's still broke. I dl'd 1.40 and I get the same, I'm going to try some other programs and see if they work now.
Well Vuze is working perfectly but Transmission is still dead

Re: After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
Hey Boys, I just upgraded to version 1.50b2.
I still get the message "PORT CLOSED", but downloads have started. It is a very slow download (from 0kb to 5 or 6kb) but it has started, that´s a beginning! Uploads have no problems, they get 150 or 180kb.
I am searching still for new softwares but any one work. Frostwire have downloaded mp3 and video files, but can not get torrents, same thing is happening with BitTorrent, torrents are like blocked.
I will maintain my loyalty to Transmission, i think it is the best Mac Os app to download torrents. While I think Shareaza is the best for PC, it is a shame that Shareaza still have not grew up to the Mac team.

Re: After upgrading Transmission, port is permanently closed
Don't know if I'm being really dumb...but...
I am running Mac OS X 10.5 with Airport and I cant get any other than " Port is closed"
I have been through the steps in the transmission help pages, Enabling NAT port mapping....I have allowed Transmissions port in the Firewall....
I have tried setting a static IP address (and I couldn't connect to the internet at all at that point)
I have no difficulty with uploads they are running at 70-150kbps but downloads seem to be limited to about 5-20kbps
Please help me!
