Transmission not recognized by system!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by fast83 »

Hi, since T 1.50 I have this strange problem. I dl files just like before, but they aren't recognized as T files anymore.
Well, I thought, I'll force the system to open torrent files with transmission, just like I do with new apps and new extension, who knows, and BIG SURPRISE, Os X doesn't recognize Transmission as an app capable to handle torrent files. Ok I thought, as long as they work, who cares, so I selected it anyway, but I lost the typical transmission icon, and now every time I open a torrent assigned to T, an annoying window pops up sayng like "this is a file dl from the net, safari dl it on 02/02/2008, and it will be open with transmission, are you sure?". The download then works smoothly as always, but I want eberything back to normal!!!

Upgraded to 1.51, nothing's changed.
What can I do????????

Here on iMac, OsX 10.5.6, all up to date.

Well, it's a long shot, but I suggest you try Right/Control clicking a torrent file (any one will do), selecting Obtain Information from the drop down menu (or however it is called in english/your language - it's the same menu you get when you select the torrent and press Command/Aplle + i). Then, move to the "Open With" area, expand it by clicking the arrow, select Transmission and then click the button right bellow (Change all/everything or something like that) =)

yeah what guilherme said should fix it for all torrents, just make sure you check the option "change all" otherwise you change only one, also the Transmission picture may not show on all .torrent files but it should still open it in Transmission

well, I obviously did the thing you two described before, a bunch of times too. Restarted, reinstalled Transmission, nothing worked.

Am I the only one with this problem?????????????? My system thinks that Transmission is not capable of handling torrent files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it absurd????????????????

same thing here.
transmission is not listed as an app to open torrents, I have to set it to all programs (in the 'open with' window), then I can choose it.
when I try to set transmission to open all torrents in the 'get info' window, it jumps back to opera.
this is annoying since now I have to select transmission for every single torrent by hand.

1) you are doing something wrong in the get info window
2) it is not a Transmission problem but a OSX problem

What I don't understand is, I have never used Opera and never had it installed on any of my machines. All of the sudden, last time I went to open a torrent file it opened in Opera. I don't even know how it ended up on my machine, never mind how it became the default application for torrents?

update: I just found this on another forum, in case anyone else is having similar issues and finds this thread:
This is a known issue. A standalone version of Opera is installed with CS3 inside the Bridge application package (look in the MacOS folder). It cannot be deleted; it is necessary for some preview and browsing functionality inside of Bridge. It associates itself with torrent files because Opera now includes a torrent client and, like always, thinks it is better than everything else.
It seems to be a fairly common problem, but I never had it appear until I did the Snow Leopard update for some reason.

Won't help with zakmazeng's problem, but it will help anyone else doing an "opera" search on here.
