Unable to download.

Post by JTM22 »

I am at a university that does not allow me to get on most Torrent sites.

However, in the past (meaning last week), I was able to get on a site off-campus, begin downloading a file, and return to campus and continue downloading the file with Transmission.

Recently I was off-campus and my Transmission stopped downloading/uploading, and I thought it was solely a problem with the internet I was using. I return to campus and am now unable to download/seed anything.

I've tried messing with the firewall... changing ports... etc., and nothing works.

THE INTERESTING THING, is that my friend has the same computer as me with Transmission, and he is able to download/upload. I tried matching my T prefs/port with his, and mine still doesn't work. (It's quite frustrating since he was just downloading something at 400 kb/s, and I am unable to do anything.) I've tried re-installing T, and that does nothing.

Any suggestions? Could it be possible that I have to start my download in a different location that doesn't block Torrent sites... And then I'll be able to finish it on campus where those sites are blocked?

***Update***

I was able to download the 2 files I was attempting to download off-campus only after I erased the original torrent files, and started all over. I got back on campus, and now one of my downloads is working, while the other 2 are not. It's not a problem with seeds --- I was able to download from 20+ peers on each file 5 minutes beforehand when I was off-campus.

I am also facing the same problem Transmission is unable to download or upload files...

It was working 1 week back and suddenly stopped working I hope it is due to some updates to the Ubuntu 8.0.4 during the week.

I have also reinstalled the Transmission but still it is not working.

Currently i am using Azureus in my Ubuntu which is downloading fine but i need to switch to transmission as the memory foot print of the transmission is very small when compare to Azureus.

Since Azureus/Bitlord is working fine I hope it is not the Firewall setting problem

Logs that might help

sudo iptables -L

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)

Please help me in solving the problem.....

Thanks
Hari
