Hi,
I've just noticed that paused torrents still connect to the tracker and get updated info on peers etc. This is a problem with some private trackers where there is a limit to the number of torrents you can download.
The private trackers think you're downloading the paused torrent as it is connecting to the tracker.
Is there any way to actually make the torrent go 'offline' so it doesn't do this and the trackers don't think the torrent is being downloaded?
Making paused torrents completely 'paused'

Transmission does not announce to trackers when paused. It will scrape paused torrents, which is allowed by the bittorrent guidelines.

Re: Making paused torrents completely 'paused'
I guess it depends on the tracker, but could the scrape count as being connected to the tracker hence downloading?
I know uTorrent has 'paused' and 'stopped' which I suppose do exactly what they say with the latter disconnecting completely from the tracker.
I'm not suggesting adding a stop option (as I think it may over complicate things). Just if the scrape is causing problems as I suspect then is there anything that can be done?
(apart from say deleting the torrent and re-adding it when needed)

Re: paused torrents completely 'paused'- please add STOP sta
livings124: okay, scraping being allowable under the BT guidelines is all well and good, but I have needs on my end which you can call guidelines or what-have-you. Specifically, I only ever get net access through wifi hotspots, and have to maintain various levels of low-profile depending on the moment, so controlling everything running on my box that blurts out over the net is absolutely crucial.
Maybe just think of it as old-fashioned competition: as noted by pjrobertson, uTorrent supports this feature (which I consider a no-brainer?) and Azureus has this as well (though I havent used it in awhile, and I seem to recall having to sift through the many Options/Preferences and tweak some things before getting it to be low-pro)
Many thanks for your work on an efficient client!
