Transmission crashes Firefox?

I'm not 100% sure, but as long as I don't have Transmission running, Firefox is fine. At first I thought it was the upgrade from 3.0.10 to .11 that was responsible, but after downgrading back to .10 the problem persists. It's been happening with the last two versions of Transmission, (1.71, 1.72). I also thought it was my hard drive going, but everything else seems to be working fine as long as Transmission isn't on.

To be clear, I think Transmission — whether or not it's downloading/uploading (paused or not) — causes Firefox to crash on my Macbook Pro (10.5.7, 3gb ram).

Am I alone in experiencing this?

It can't possible be the app. Perhaps it's something to do with your network setup? Or something unrelated.

I don't think it's my network, it hasn't changed in a year. The only constant is Transmission is running when Firefox crashes, and once Firefox has crashed once, it keeps crashing until Transmission is turned off. I've been using Transmission for months now, and the crashing started with the recent updates. Since I've ruled out Firefox, it has to be Transmission.

That makes no sense though. There is no way one app can crash another (besides plugins and such). If I had to guess you're not limiting the connections/bandwidth usage in Transmission, leaving nothing for Firefox and therefore crashing it...why that would crash it I don't know.

I've only been using Transmission for a few months, but I've never limited the (download) bandwidth before. The only thing to change recently is the Transmission version.

the fact that Firefox didn't crash in the previous releases does not have to mean that Firefox was stable back then, maybe something within the Transmission update triggered an error in Firefox. Are you sure you are using the last version of Firefox and have installed the last security update on your computer (software update)
