Torrent fully seeded, but ratio is less than 1.0

Post by dehory »

Is it possible for a torrent to have 100% seeded, but for the ratio reported by Transmission to be less than 1.0?

The private tracker to which I uploaded my torrent says that it has 15 seeds and 2 leeches, so the torrent *has* to have completed for those 15 people. But in Transmission, I've only uploaded 77.7 MB of 88.8 MB (see below). It was my torrent, so I was the only initial seeder.

Is this a glitch in Transmission or the tracker, or am I misunderstanding something about the principles of BitTorrent???

you are in error..

100% means the file is complete.. and when you look at "have" it says 88.8 MB
but uploaded is 77.7 MB.. so that is not 100%

in fact the ratio of 0.87 is absolutely correct..
the 100% you see with progress is how much of the file you downloaded, not uploaded

[EDIT}
and i need glasses... didn't see the line where it said you are the initial seeder.. :mrgreen:

possibility is that someone had the same file and he did the most uploading..
it's a trick i use at times.. with a private tracker, and my ratio is low.. i look elsewhere to see if i can get the files from there and match it with the torrent from the private tracker..

Yes, this was the same conclusion I also came to. I think several people saw that it would be a popular torrent, obtained the files from another source, then opened up my torrent and seeded from these files. I'm new to this tracker and hadn't observed such strategic torrenting behaviour before. Very clever!
