Remote app for Iphone
Re: Remote app for Iphone
I haven't tried it, but just try to connect from your iPhone after activating the remote.
If you don't know how to turn on the Remote, read this thread:

Re: Remote app for Iphone
The thread tells you exactly how to set up the transmission web interface. My question is, how do you get the web interface to work remotely? Inside my house/wifi network I can load the web interface by putting in the ip address:port in the url address box but when I leave my house/network I doesn't load the transmission web interface. What is the point of having transmission on your iphone inside of your computers network? Does anyone know how I can use this interface remotely? ex. from 3G network or wifi hotspot? Thanks!Ryoujin wrote:I haven't tried it, but just try to connect from your iPhone after activating the remote.

Re: Remote app for Iphone
You should try using your public IP address instead of the internal IP.
Re: Remote app for Iphone
Thanks for the reply. I'm assuming that to make my ip address public I have to configure my router (NAT and port forwarding)? I'm having some trouble with another app (VNC Lite for the iPhone) that won't let me access my computer remotely and I believe it has to do with the configuration of my AirPort Extreme router. If anyone has any experience configuring an AE router, I'd really appreciate some advice. I'm kind of a rookie when it comes to port forwarding.
Re: Remote app for Iphone
The easiest thing would be going to http://www.ipchicken.com/ it will display the public IP that you have. Then try using that IP from somewhere else, along with the port, and it should work. This doesn't require any configuration.
Re: Remote app for Iphone
I went to ipchicken.com, got a public ip address, tried using both the port number it gave me and the default port 9091 number but to no avail. The public IP address didn't work for VNC either. I figure it must be something with my router.
Re: Remote app for Iphone
Maybe your router has incoming connections blocked? You'd probably have to work out something related to the listening port in your router.
Re: Remote app for Iphone
Yea, I had to open port 9091 in order for the web interface to work remotely. Anyone out there with an Airport Extreme having the same trouble here's what you have to do. Open Airport Utility-manual setup-advanced-port mapping...set the description to whatever you want (in this case I used remote access), click on the udp/tcp tab-type in 9091 (after the 3283,)...type your computer's IP address that you see when you open preferences-network in the ip address box, click finished and let airport extreme reboot...use this website to make sure port 9091 is open canyouseeme.orgOnce you know port 9091 is open, find your public IP address at the link Ryoujin has posted above, type that ip address into your iphone ex. 123.1.22.333:9091/transmission/web and everything should work.
Re: Remote app for Iphone
In the case of 10 Mac's on a local network all with Transmission, how can we be sure the request is forwarded to to the correct target machine? I'd be unpopular if I tried to remotely control Transmission running on another house dwellers computer
Would it just be a case of defining a non default port on the target machine and setting a forwarding rule in the router? Also is this TCP, UDP or both TCP/UDP?
I noticed while on the local network accessing transmission from the browser it alerted me that the password was going to be sent unencrypted. Will there ever be SSL support for this?
Lastly, does the target machine have to be in a state where Transmission is actually launched? I'm sure Transmission could be setup as a login item but would would be the course of action to take if Transmission crashed on the target machine we need to control remotely?
Hope someone can fill in the details here. Thanks
