Performance and cache size

Hi, first I must say that I enjoy using Transmission, the groups function with filters works really well. But when it comes to performance I would like to have a more stable client. Today, it crashed my system three times with only a dozen torrents (and I'm not underpowered, 2.66 GHz quad and 4 GB ram), and the GUI became really unresponsive. Maybe it could be related to that I let my disks sleep. It seems like it's accessing the drive quite often, and the memory footprint is low, for me it would be better to use more ram instead and allow faster startup of other programs. Is it possible to set the cache size in some way?
