Can't limit upload speed

Post by Max B. »

I'm using Transmission v1.75 and Mac OS 10.5.8. My global max upload speed is set to 10 KB/s but my upload speed is hovering around 100 KB/s, what gives? The download speed limit is working just fine but the upload limit is only working a little bit (before I turned on the speed limit I was uploading around 250 KB/s so it is doing something).

I can attest to this too. Upload speed is uncapped, however download speed can be limited. Running Snow Leopard and Transmission 1.75

Did maybe one of the torrents accidentally get set to ignore the session's speed limits? Check the Torrent Inspector dialog...

I would like to report that I'm also experiencing this problem. My upload limit is set to 30 KB/s. Transmission reports that it is hitting that rate, but my actual upload rate, as reported by iStat Menus, is hovering around 60-70 KB/s, which is my maximum upload rate. This is affecting my download speed as well as my regular web surfing.

Putting it in Speed Limit mode (set to 10 KB/s down, 4 KB/s up) does not change the upload speed reported by iStat Menus. Pausing all torrents and/or quitting Transmission results in upload speeds between 0-3 KB/s, indicating that I have no other upload process (i.e. rsync backups) taking place during this time.

If there are any other tests that I can run, please advise. Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Tested using Transmission 1.75 as well as latest nightly build 1.75+ (9306).

Just here to chime in and say that I, too, am having this issue. Unfortunately I'm going to have to temporarily use another client until this is resolved. I'm also running Snow Leopard 10.6.1.

I've noticed that if it's just one torrent, my speed isn't maxed out yet, but it is still above the limit. As I add more, the upload speed increases until it's finally maxed out.

Still happening in 1.76. Also, not sure it'd help, but it seems to have an odd up and down phase:

me too! My isp called me the other day and told me I'd uploaded 80gb this month... so anyone figure anything out? I'm upping about 150kb/s and have my limit set at 10 right now. Just switched from vuze, everythings better, this is a problem though. Running os x 10.6 & transmission 1.75

Same problem here. I'm on Snow Leopard but I've had this problem for a good few months now in Leopard as well, very annoying. Thankfully I don't have any bandwidth limits with my ISP but it still slows down my internet a good deal as my upload just gets completely saturated.
