I have Transmission 1.73 (8832) for OSX. I've set up the web interface under the remote tab of Preferences. The listening port is 9091 (which is forwarded, by the way). I used to be able to use the web interface just fine (even from my iPhone over 3G using DynDNS). However, a few months ago after an update it stopped working...even on my local machine. Clicking "Launch Web Interface" (or typing "http://localhost:9091/transmission/web/" into the address bar) will cause Safari to try for several seconds to load the page, only to fail and display "Safari can’t open the page 'http://localhost:9091/transmission/web/' because Safari can’t connect to the server 'localhost'." Which doesn't make much sense to me.
At first, I just ignored the problem because I was too lazy to figure out what was wrong. But now I really need to fix it, and unfortunately, I can't remember what version of Transmission I had upgraded to when it first stopped working.
I really appreciate any help. If there's more information that I need to include, please tell me. I'm not exactly a power user, haha.
Thanks
Can't launch Web Interface, even from localhost
Re: Can't launch Web Interface, even from localhost
I'm having the same is issue on Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8) and Transmission 1.75. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Can't launch Web Interface, even from localhost
I forgot to point out the full Error:
Browser Page title: Failed to Open page
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://localhost:9091/transmission/web/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “localhost”.
Thanks,
Rene

Re: Can't launch Web Interface, even from localhost
For some reason, it started working after a few restarts of Transmission.

Re: Can't launch Web Interface, even from localhost
The error message means that your DNS resolver does not know what 'localhost' is, it has nothing to do with Transmission and everything to do with your Mac OSX... is /etc/hosts present and well defined? is the resolver running?
When something like that happens you should manually try 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost on your URL; as for accessing it from outside it should work since you say the port is mapped (to your Mac's LAN IP address, not localhost in this case).
