1.76 stable, creates multiple preferences

Post by Ryoujin »

I've been noticing the last couple of days that the latest stable creates random preference files, I found out this when Transmission wouldn't save some preferences from time to time. Here's an example of how these preferences are named:

Code: Select all

org.m0k.transmission.plist
org.m0k.transmission.plist.aeREES8
org.m0k.transmission.plist.RtrFCWn

That's odd, but we're just using Apple's code to generate this. Perhaps file a bug with them?

I'm not sure if it's a Snow Leopard issue, a couple of days I updated to 10.6.2 (from 10.6.1), but if I recall correctly I saw this happen weeks before the 10.6.2 update (when I was trying out something for another issue I posted), but I didn't have a clue until now. I'm getting the latest stable installed again, so I'll keep an eye.

How could I report a bug with them?

By the way, this doesn't happen with the nightly builds.

I just tried, and I get an error whenever I try to login:
You do not have an Apple ID. Please contact the IS&T HelpLine.
Dial 4-7777 from any Cupertino campus phone
Dial 7777 from any Sacramento campus phone
Dial 4-HELP (4357) from any Austin campus phone
Dial 1-800-800-6272 from anywhere in the U.S.
Dial 1-408-974-7777 from SCV or outside the U.S
The account works, because I use it for other areas, maybe it needs some sort of special privilege?

Another thing is that I was setting the stable version, finished setting it up, closed it, re-opened and the "Support open-source indie software" dialog showed up. Whenever I close the application, the dialog shows up, and every time I do this a preference file is created:

Code: Select all

org.m0k.transmission.plist
org.m0k.transmission.plist.8RQFCMV
org.m0k.transmission.plist.fLKNVoH
org.m0k.transmission.plist.fsGOSru
org.m0k.transmission.plist.nA8SqSQ
org.m0k.transmission.plist.pPfR6MU
org.m0k.transmission.plist.pv7IOzV
org.m0k.transmission.plist.RDrxes1
org.m0k.transmission.plist.t6EAEUB
org.m0k.transmission.plist.vrfqzfU
org.m0k.transmission.plist.VSQC3oG

It looks like your system is having problems writing this file. But again, this is outside the apps responsibilities in terms of how it's written. For the problem with Apple's site, I don't really know anything about it.

I formatted the computer a couple of days ago, and even before that I saw it happening. I guess nothing else can be done, thanks!

I am having the same issue as the original poster. Whenever I quit Transmission, a plist file with a random alphanumeric extension is created. When I open the plist, the file is blank.

I am running 10.6.2 with 1.76 Transmission. I have checked permissions per the last reply and they are fine.

Original plist is not locked. I just performed Verify Disk and it checked out OK. I have deleted ALL Transmission plist files and have the same result.
