I am using Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a G5 iMac with 1GB ram. I was using Transmission 1.83 for awhile, but experienced intermittent, random crashing of the application. Sometimes it would stay up for 15 mins, other times it would crash in an hour. I did not notice any other effect.
I downloaded 1.83 again, and restarted the computer. I continued to have trouble. Based on your advice, I downloaded the nightly build, and continue to have crashing events. I am now using 1.83+ (10192).
This is the first time I've used Transmission since I changed my hard drive. Also, this is the first time I've tried to use 1.83; my last download was some previous version. I had some difficulty updating to 1.83, but it started to work so I didn't think anything of it.
I am currently trying to download two 4GB files, and am seeding on 350MB file. I also have a bunch paused (seed ratio hit). I have downgraded priority set on one of the two files, and escalated priority on 5 sub-files of the normal priority 4GB file.
Crashlog:
In ~/Library/Logs/, I have what appears to be an old crashlog from some months ago, but nothing current. I'l post it if you find it useful.
In LOG DATABASE QUERIES > Console message, I have recent events that look like:
2/13/10 11:39:42 PM com.apple.launchd[155] ([0x0-0xa20a2].org.m0k.transmission[1490]) Exited with exit code: 1
2/13/10 11:39:42 PM com.apple.launchd[155] ([0x0-0xa20a2].org.m0k.transmission[1490]) Exited with exit code: 1
I have a bunch of others that are like this.
The crash appears intermittently--sometimes it will run for awhile, other times only 10 mins or so. I have not been able to purposefully cause it, stop it, or cause it to occur with any increasing or decreasing regularity. I have used it both with bandwidth caps on, and with them off. It just stops running, without an error or anything else that I can see.
I will continue to experiment and will update this thread if I am able to change it's behavior, either positively or negatively.
Thank you with your help with this. I will be happy to provide any other information if you can provide me direction on where to look.
I really like the work and functionality that you've put into Transmission so far, and I count on it to be able to catch up with shows that I've missed. I hope we can work this out!

Re: Intermittent random transmission crashing
I have a similar problem. I am using Transmission 1.75 and over the past couple of days, it seems to quit by itself after a few hours. There is no problem restarting it. There are usually four to five torrents open at the time.
Any idea what's happening?
Thanks.

Re: Intermittent random transmission crashing
I'd be happy to investigate & try to fix any crashes, but there's not enough in either of these posts to tell what the cause is. Please see the section "If Transmission Crashed on Your Mac" in the "How to Report a Bug" post at the top of this forum. Thanks!

Re: Intermittent random transmission crashing
I did review those guidelines, actually--but as I said, there's nothing in CrashReporter for me to post. I did post what I have from Console Messages.
I know it's not much, but I'm not sure what else I can do to provide you the information you need to investigate. Is there an avenue you can suggest, even to get more crashlog data? Like a verbosity setting on the log files?
I'll continue to experiment with the user level stuff too, like which torrent I'm downloading etc and I'll post if I was able to make the behavior change that way.
