All ports closed

Post by mschioler »

Hi,

I have recently switched from Vuze to Transmission and must say it works a lot better. However, it's still very slow, although not as slow as it was with Vuze. I'm on a wireless internet connection which is supposed to be able to reach a speed of 7,2 mbit/s. But I am trying to download torrents that have hundreds of seeds and still can't get a decent speed most of the time (like below 10 kB/s). The upload speed is better than it's been before, though.

I am on a Macbook, running mac osx 10.5.8. I don't have a router and the Mac firewall is set to default, that is, turned off. There is as far as I can find nowhere to manually open ports. I have tried turning the firewall on and manually allowing incoming connections from Transmission but to no avail.

Every port I try is closed according to Transmission. When I check them on canyouseeme.org I just get time outs. Everything seems to work fine except for when it comes to torrenting. I'm downloading a ca 400mb file through http and it's taken like five-ten minutes, maybe not super speed but quite a bit above 4 kB/s. This is driving me crazy, please help!

Thanks :) Reading this page confirms that it has to be my ISP blocking all the ports. Apparently the only thing to do then is to "politely ask them" to open a port for me.. I really doubt they will, but I shall try.
