How to locate/delete torrent files?

Post by Beil »

Hi,

It's been a while since I used Transmission but I recall there used to be a feature something like "Move torrent file to trash". I can't find anything like this in the current version of Transmission.

How does one now delete (or at least locate) torrent files for cleaning up? Many torrent files have rather cryptic names that don't name the content that they point to (i.e ones from Kickass) so being able to locate the torrent file from the Transmission list.

I can't imagine why this feature would have been removed, but perhaps it's just been moved to a really really obscure place.

ANy help with this would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I'll try that for the next few torrents to see how it works. But what about the 60+ torrents I've already got in my list?

x190, I can see what you would suggest that... I perhaps wasn't clear enough in my first post. I know where the entire lot of torrent files are, I just want to pinpoint _one_ of them to delete. How can I locate a particular torrent file that is connected to a file in my Transmission list?

If you still have the file in Transmission, highlight the file then open the Inspector, and click on the information button (i), and at the bottom of the window in the 'where' column, the torrent name should be displayed. I think this is what you are looking for. Good luck...

magicrat454, That actually indicates where the Data File is (that is, the actual content being downloaded.) I've search through every Inspector pane too, but the torrent file name/location isn't there.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a glaring omission that somehow got forgotten (?) while coding an update or new version. I just can't see why such a useful feature would be gone. I must just be missing it somewhere.

Does anyone else know where it is?

Beil, My info panel shows both the data file and torrent names, but it occurs to me that I'm using an older version, 1.54, on OSX 10.4.11
Sorry I couldn't help.

Beil: Transmission isn't going to manage .torrent files after they've been added internally. This is intentional. Since you did not enable the option in the first place, Transmission isn't going to keep track of where the original .torrent file was.

Rolcol, I think the problem Beil has is that he can't correspond a particular torrent to its downloaded file, because the two file names are not the same. He mentions Kickass torrents, whose names seem to be long strings of digits and letters, but the downloaded file has an actual "logical" title. Am I on track so far Beil?
I've tried downloading a torrent again while the file was still in the list, which gave me an error message, noting that the torrent was already in the download list. I think the message had the torrent name in it. It would be a somewhat tedious task to find 60 or more in this manner, but if there's no other way....
Good luck.
