I can not get transmission to stop crashing. I've tried a ton of different version from 1.76 to 2.12(current) and everytime I launch it, it will run for a few minutes than completely lock my system up forcing me to reboot, holding the power button.
I have done my research and here is what I have done:
Limited global connections to 100
Limited connections per torrent to 20
Cleared my list of torrents to around 20 currently active (seeding)
I don't have more than 2 or 3 torrents leaching at any given time
Limit my u/l speed to 100kb/s
Limit my d/l speed to 750kb/s
What else can I do? I'm about 5 minutes away from switching torrent clients, but I have used Transmission for years and do not want to abandon it. Help please! Thanks
Any version crashes, all the time
Re: Any version crashes, all the time
This isn't a very good solution but have you tried removing all of Transmission's preferences and starting with a blank slate? There may be a bad file in there that could be causing things. As long as you have backups of the .torrent files, you can drop them back in and point them to the data without having to completely re-download them.
A crash report would be immensely helpful if you can get one. The nightlies give the best crash reports.

Re: Any version crashes, all the time
Ok, thanks for the reply. I installed the nightlies thing and I'm running it now until it inevitable crashes. How do I obtain a crash report from this?
Re: Any version crashes, all the time
I deleted all those files but when I reinstalled and opened up Transmission, all of my settings stayed the same. Did I miss something?
Either way here is what Console says about it:

Re: Any version crashes, all the time
So I removed all those files, rebooted and reinstalled (I did it right this time) but Transmission still crashed after a couple minutes with the same message in Console.
Re: Any version crashes, all the time
Also, if any version at all crashes, then the most useful crash report will come from a nightly build from https://build.transmissionbt.com/job/trunk-mac/ ... thanks!
Re: Any version crashes, all the time
Lately, this has been happening to me an estimated once every three or four hours. Been using Transmission for years and never had problems like this.
Using the latest nightly 11438 on a current gen Mac Mini running Mac OS X 10.6.5. I've tried several different versions, running in 32 bit mode and even doing a clean install following the directions above.
11/26/10 19:40:44 com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[103] ([0x0-0x1ab1ab].org.m0k.transmission[2995]) Exited with exit code: 1
Also, I can't make the peer listening port become green/open without enabling Remote Access, but maybe that's another problem...?

Re: Any version crashes, all the time
Same advice for reebzor and for rauz: download a nightly build of Transmission from https://build.transmissionbt.com/job/trunk-mac/ and if it crashes, post here the information described in the "How to report a bug" sticky at the top of this forum. I appreciate the information you've given so far, but that crash report from a nightly build is the next step.
Re: Any version crashes, all the time
Thanks for the reply. I can't find any mentions of Transmission in either /Library/Logs/CrashReporter or ~/Library/Logs/CrashReport. All I'm seeing is the "Exited with exit code: 1" in Database Searches. As I mentioned I'm running the latest nightly.
I'm on a fast 100/100 connection and when I capped the bandwith download rate to 2000 KB/s it seems to be running a bit more stable but it's been working just fine without limiting up until now.
