Hi guys,
I'm trying to get transmission working on my giganas and am hitting the brick wall... Please can you help !!!
I get the following error when I hit my box's web account:
its 172.16.0.2:9091
403: Forbidden
Unauthorized IP Address.
Either disable the IP address whitelist or add your address to it.
If you're editing settings.json, see the 'rpc-whitelist' and 'rpc-whitelist-enabled' entries.
If you're still using ACLs, use a whitelist instead. See the transmission-daemon manpage for details.
Ive edited the settings.json to include my local ip of 172.16.*.* in the white list allow but i am still being locked out

Transmission in Qaud bay gig nas
Re: Transmission in Qaud bay gig nas
you have to stop the transmission-daemon from running before editing settings.json or the changes won't stick.
also at any time you can run command:
transmission-daemon -g config_dir --dump-settings
to see what the current settings really are. just curious, do you use something like telnet or ssh to access the command line on the nas?

Thanks for your reply gunzip !!
I am a former HP-UX head and hardware engineer from the old days and I really appreciate your help.. so thanks!
I've had a look at my box and I am starting to think the version I have downloaded from the NAS support site is dud or compiled wrong?
For example when I look to start / stop the transmission daemon it doesn't exist in the local directory:
I got the following location from the following URL
https://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/Scripts/initd
/etc/init.d/transmission-daemon start
I searched the transmission site for some detail in relation to the start stop scrips and theres no init.d directory in /etc/ dir on my NAS!

yes that wiki link is for Debian/Ubuntu startup scripts .. yours is a different animal.

etc/rc.d/30_restart_cced.sh

maybe you should re-download and reinstall and see if you left out any steps in the installation procedure. unfortunately that package has no manual, docs or even a README included anywhere.
your config_dir seems to be at /mnt/md1/public/.transmission/ so as a last resort you start the dameon like this
transmission-daemon -g /mnt/md1/public/.transmission/
and stop it with
killall transmission-daemon
i grabbed that tarball and unpacked it and you seems to be missing some files based on what you posted from from the find / command, e.g.:alser wrote:I got the tar ball from the following support link:

Re: Transmission in Qaud bay gig nas
Thanks again Gunzip,
Thanks for helping me understand this issue further, yet again your right !!!
I did a search for rpm and I did a uname -a and found out that its a linux kernel !
I'm going to try to rm the application this pm GMT and then try to install it with the app loader on the embedded systems.net folder and see how it goes, I think this is a duff install as I have a vague memory of trying this some months ago and it failing also!
If it fails again tonight, What is your oppinion of trying to rpm the latest version of transmission :- do you think it will work?
Thanks
Alan

Thanks for helping me understand this issue further, yet again your right !!!
I did a search for rpm and I did a uname -a and found out that its a linux kernel !
I'm going to try to rm the application this pm GMT and then try to install it with the app loader on the embedded systems.net folder and see how it goes, I think this is a duff install as I have a vague memory of trying this some months ago and it failing also!
If it fails again tonight, What is your oppinion of trying to rpm the latest version of transmission :- do you think it will work?
Thanks
Alan
