Crashing - 1.91/1.92/1.93/2.00

Post by vid »

Hello,

I've been experiencing crashes with Transmission for quite some time - starting with the 1.9x releases and now the problem still seems to be apparent in the 2.00 release (10766) on Mac OS.

Basically, Transmission randomly closes itself without warning. It does not appear to be tied to any particular action on my computer - ie. opening a specific application, using a shortcut or anything like that.

For the life of me I can't figure out what's causing the problem. Originally I thought it was because I had set the number of connections per torrent too high, so I have lowered it to the defaults offered by Transmission. Then I thought I might have had too many torrents (~10) going at one time, so I've gone through culling them down, and now only have one torrent. The crashes don't seem to be particular to downloading or seeding, either.

I can't find any crash reports in Console.app when Transmission closes. I can however find entries like this in the Console Messages:

Code: Select all

19/06/10 2:08:58 AM	com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[170]	([0x0-0x35b35b].org.m0k.transmission[42484]) Exited with exit code: 1

Code: Select all

19/06/10 9:48:33 AM	com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[170]	([0x0-0x3f83f8].org.m0k.transmission[50746]) Exited with exit code: 1
I've tried completely removing Transmission and re-installing, and I have the same problem.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.4.

Happy to provide any more information should you wish. Would love to sort this out!

Thanks.

I've done everything you said - turns out there was some permissions problems and OS X advised that I repair the disk, too.

Let's see how it goes...

Cheers

Nope, did the same thing again. I didn't even have any torrents running.

The console says:

Code: Select all

Jun 23 10:41:50 iMac [0x0-0x27027].org.m0k.transmission[283]: [10:41:50.957] Starting libevent thread
Jun 23 12:31:42 iMac com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[179] ([0x0-0x27027].org.m0k.transmission[283]): Exited with exit code: 1
Any thoughts?

Cheers

Can you try a nightly build? They have better debug information for when it crashes compared to the stables.

An update. I started using a nightly and didn't experience any crashes, so after a few days I rolled back to 2.01 release. Now, it's been running fine and hasn't crashed!

God knows what has happened but the problem seems to have corrected itself.

Thanks for the help!

Strangely enough, the problem has returned. I was running 2.13 stable, and now I've moved to a Nightly (11644). Still having the same problem.

In the console, there's the same message:

Code: Select all

12/01/11 7:29:25 PM	com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[224]	([0x0-0x5e45e4].org.m0k.transmission[21463]) Exited with exit code: 1
Nothing in the crash reporter.

I've run Disk Utility and checked all my disks, and verified the permissions. Everything is fine, but the thing still crashes! I notice that if I am actively using the computer - for example, typing out this forum post - Transmission won't quit. It's when I wander off and leave my iMac that it crashes, and I don't notice until I come back.

Any ideas? Could it be a setting relating to screen savers/turning off the disk when idle?

Alright, tested that one out over the past few days and no fix.

Any other ideas? :-S
