Torrents "stalled"

Post by Prisca22 »

Hi :D

I've seen a similar subject here, but it's not quite what my problem is.

All of my fully downloaded torrents are listed as "calé" (in French) which means stalled, or stuck, or that Transmission has given up. I have never seen this, so I don't know the correct translation for it. These are torrents that haven't reached the seeding ratio of 2.0. They're all green. The message "calé" is directly under the green bar indicating the status of the torrent (finished, downloading). I'm wondering what this means, and how I can fix it. Even recent downloads are "calé".

I tried to submit a ticket, but I can't find it anywhere. The number I was given is 4455... I even included a screen shot.

I'm on MacOs 10.5.8 PPC, using Firefox 3.6.17, and Transmission 2.22 (12099).

Could anyone help? :?:

Thanks for your reply. No, I'm not using "Queues". Translating from the French, there's a box I left unticked saying "Arrêt de l'envoi si inactif pendant XYZ minutes, meaning, "Stop sending if inactive for XYZ minutes." This is equivalent to your Queue thing.

Any other ideas? By the way, I wish I could have Transmission in English, but since I live in France, it seems only the French version is proposed for download.

Hi,

I checked all the stalled torrents: none of them have any error or tracker messages other than "seed this torrent as long as possible!". All of the trackers are private if that helps any.

I also tried downgrading to Transmission 2.11 but it didn't change a thing.

I did just that except that 2 of the files you said to put on my desk weren't in the Library
~/Library/Preferences/org.m0k.transmission.LSSharedFileList.plist
~/Library/Caches/org.m0k.transmission
I downloaded 2.22 but now the port is closed and ALL my torrents are gone. How do I get them back first, meanwhile I'll try getting the port to open.

By the way, I don't think its a tracker problem because there are 2 or 3 different private trackers.

Well, here's an update. I managed to get Transmission back to version 2.2 and get my torrents back fastidiously (it took me over an hour to copy almost 450torrents )copying them one by one from the Application Support/Transmission file that was on my Desktop, because the newly created one, was empty of course.
So now, the stalling seems to have stopped. But the port remains closed. I tried using 56789, then went back to 51413, then to 4444 and none work (of course opening said ports in my router). Can't see what I'm doing wrong. But this is another topic. I'll try and see if there's a topic open on this issue here.

Here's another update. I finally got the port to go green, but by randomly assigning a number for it, and which is NOT opened in my router!!! Go figure that one out... :? The open port automatically is checked as usual, and it has been working for over a week.
But all my unfinished seeding torrents are stalled again, that is, all my torrents that have not reached the 2.0 ratio.
So I'm back to my original question. What can I do about it? :?:

Confusion abounds with Transmission. I have 2 hanging torrent dls at this point and have six others this past week. I occasionally get a green port but rarely. The hanging torrents show red for areas unavailable and then specify that remaining time unknown, which is so frequent now. Before, it was just occasional.

I used to use µTorrent as I found Transmissions easier to use and it seemed more Mac specific but having downloaded µTorrent's latest edition and used it for less than a day I find I have a green port always, the speed is four to eight times what Transmissions has been in a long time and so far no torrent has given me any indication that anything has stalled. It just finished dl a file that has been on Transmissions for 36+ h and it did it in under 3h. I'm leaving Transmissions up and that file going to see how long it will take to dl, if ever. It has been going 2d 20h and counting. It is now not showing stalled (no red) yet it is still saying remaining time unknown. Go figure.

I'm a patient man but enough is enough. Anything, even µTorrent will be a pleasure after these past weeks and I have been using Transmissions for more than a year. I'm at least pleased to see you are getting answers to your enquire. I got none from mine.

Hi x190. :D

I really don't think that my ISP is messing around here. The French government has passed a law called HADOPI that cracks down on P2Ps. It wanted to force all internet providers to send out warnings to presumed "pirates". My ISP (Free) resisted complying (using legal loopholes = a signature missing on the demand, or finally sent a printed list by courrier instead of via email), so I don't think they're doing any voluntary blocking or snooping around. I could do Glasnost to see, but should Transmission be running at the same time ?

I very much doubt my IPS has anything to do with these problems. I did try running your link to Glasnost, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything after I allowed the applet (I'm on Mac). My port is still green, and I still get stalled torrents when attempting to seed.
