I have a large file that I need to get to a friend
I figured out how to create the torrent file pretty quickly, but have had trouble finding a tutorial on how to do the rest. What I have tried so far is e-mailing the files to him and then having Transmission open on both our computers with the files active. Obviously not working. I would like to avoid uploading the files to a website if at all possible. Thanks!

How big is the file?
The manner you might choose is :
A: use a FTP client like cyberduck
B: set yourself up as a server and link by remote to your friend
C: Voip call via SKYPE and send the file via the integrated file transfer mech, and while you chat with each other
or
D: use dropbox for all your file sharing and synching needs, I like it and it is free no strings.

If all you're needing to do is move one large file between you and a friend, there are simpler methods than p2p.
For example, https://www.transferbigfiles.com/ might be what you're looking for.
